Mark–

Thank you, Mark, and yes it was my birthday. Shared, by the way, with Jonathan Swift, Mark Twain, Winston Churchill and Abbie Hoffman. If I could mix together the books of those four, plus James Baldwin, I’d be pretty close to my ideal writing in both mood and substance. And the very odd thing is that after I wrote the above, I looked up the birthday of James Baldwin. He was not born on November 30th, but that was the day he died.
